Billions of people from all over the world use social media every single day- for work, for staying connected with friends & family, for entertainment, and much more. Platforms like Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn have been here for a while now and well, they aren’t going anywhere anytime soon.

A new year means a lot of new changes, especially in the world of social media- New algorithms, new features, new trends, and the list goes on. For example, while reels became extremely popular in 2021, who knows what 2023 has in store for us? Maybe a new algorithm that shows posts in chronological order, or a new type of video content, or new features to edit reels in an even better way, or something else altogether?

People spend an average of 2 hours every day on social media. As businesses, these platforms would want their users to increase the time spent on their respective platforms, hence, they keep introducing new & more entertaining features every now and then. While we cannot be sure of the new things we are going to experience in the world of social media in the upcoming year, let’s have a look at some of the social media features/trends that already exist and are expected to pick up speed in 2023!

  • Growth of Social Media Shopping

Social media stores have been here for a while now but since 2020, they have become immensely popular and are only expected to grow more and more in the coming years. Be it live-streaming on Facebook and taking instant bookings, running Instagram pages & selling products on the platform, or setting up a social media store that directly connects the audience to the website, social media shopping has become extremely common nowadays.

  • Rise of Short-Time Content

Long-duration content still exists for sure but with each passing day, the short-time content has been taking over the world of Social Media in the form of stories, reels, etc. Not only do people lack the time & patience to watch longer videos but the more the FOMO exists in the mind of the audience, the faster they will want to watch the content (which in turn helps with the algorithm and thus the reach & engagement of it increases quickly), which is why stories & reels always have a higher view/engagement than longer videos & static feed posts.

  • Growth of Influencer Marketing

Influencer Marketing is expected to remain an essential part of online marketing in 2023. In fact, it’s expected to grow more than ever before. But surprisingly, in 2023 the focus will be more on micro-influencers rather than the mega ones. Brands have started to realize the benefit of using micro-influencers for their marketing and thus are expected to invest more and more in them.

  • Augmented Reality & Artificial Intelligence

Mark Zuckerberg has already introduced his dream of building the Metaverse which includes entertainment, shopping, work, gaming, etc., basically everything you can think of but virtually. Brands have started using AR filters on social media to give their audience a better experience. For example, brands like Dior, Maybelline, etc. have launched filters that help the audience in trying out their products virtually, whereas brands like Raskik, Yatri Railways, etc. have launched entertaining games on social media that use Augmented Reality. This trend is expected to become even more popular in 2023.

Which of these trends do you think will pick up the most speed in 2023?
